Some low-income Americans are finding it more difficult to rent homes because institutional investors — who have sucked up or generated a large share of rental inventory in some markets — are wary of taking on tenants who use Section 8 housing subsidies, Bloomberg reports.
“This is not homeownership … I don’t understand how so many people are being turned down from rentals,” one real estate agent told Bloomberg when reflecting on the challenges of persuading investors to accept applications from her clients who use Section 8 vouchers.
