Sales of new single-family houses in January increased a seasonally adjusted 9.6 percent month over month to 468,000 from a revised December rate of 427,000, according to a report released jointly by the U.S. Census Bureau and the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
The report’s seasonally adjusted estimate of new houses for sale at the end of January was 184,000, which represents a supply of 4.7 months at the current sales rate.
