In a huff over flat-fee listings, members of the Greater Montreal Real Estate Board have voted to separate from the Canadian Real Estate Association, and their listings will no longer show up on Realtor.ca as of Jan. 1. Instead, Montreal’s 9,700 brokers will post listings to Centris.ca, The Montreal Gazette reports.
Some Montreal brokers are up in arms about the fact that flat-fee brokers in Ontario are able to post Quebec listings on realtor.ca. CREA has protested that it’s powerless to stop members from Ontario or other provinces from listing homes for sale in Quebec.
The vote to separate from CREA was a close one, and brokers in the area who disagree with the plan can join one of the eight other real estate boards in Quebec that still belong to CREA. Source: montrealgazette.com
