Officials in Putnam County, N.Y., have decided to hire real estate agents to sell homes that are seized when their owners fail to pay their property taxes.
Traditionally, tax-delinquent homes are sold to investors at auctions. But Putnam County — located in New York’s Hudson Valley — is hoping to get a better deal for 77 parcels it plans to sell in order to collect $4 million in back taxes.
A batch of 20 properties soon to come on the market includes a vacation cottage priced at $30,000 and a ranch home for $160,000. Source: lohud.com.
