Online real estate site Trulia.com says it has acquired Movity, a startup that promises to help homebuyers and renters learn more about the area they’re considering living in.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed. In addition to movity.com — a site that promises to help users determine the safety of a prospective location, who lives next door, and what locals have to say about the area — Movity is the creator of social media check-in tracker weeplaces.com.
The Movity team includes Eric Wu, co-founder of RentWiki.com; Sha Hwang, design technologist from Stamen Design; Vaughn Koch, program manager from Bing; and Zain Memon, a contributor to the open-source framework Django.
"Movity brings strong engineering skills, visualizations specialists and a passion for real estate," said Trulia CEO Pete Flint in a statement. "We looked at their vision and our vision and we knew we had a perfect match."
Trulia, which has venture funding from Accel Partners and Sequoia Capital, also announced that it has moved into a new 30,000-square-foot office in downtown San Francisco’s South of Market (SOMA) district. The company said it doubled the size of its work force in 2010, and employees wanted to be closer to public transportation.
