Realtor.com reclaimed the top spot as the most-visited real estate-related website in October, according to the latest report from Web metrics firm Experian Hitwise. The report’s data is based on a sample of 10 million U.S. Internet users.
Yahoo Real Estate previously displaced Realtor.com from the No. 1 position for the first time in the report’s three-year history in August and retained that spot in September.
While Yahoo Real Estate’s market share remained steady at 5.87 percent of traffic to real estate category websites, Realtor.com’s share jumped to 5.99 percent last month from 5.76 percent in September.
Only three sites among the top 20 most popular retained their positions: Zillow, Trulia and Rent.com at Nos. 3, 4 and 5, respectively. Zillow had a 4.23 percent market share, followed by Trulia at 3.49 percent, and Rent.com at 2.53 percent.
ZipRealty (2.23 percent) moved back up to No. 6 in October after dropping to seventh in August, bumping MSN Real Estate down to No.8. Homes.com moved up one spot to No. 7. Both Homes.com and MSN Real Estate had 2.05 percent market share.
Continuing its rise up the ranks, HGTV-affiliated FrontDoor Real Estate (1.75 percent) claimed the No. 9 spot, up from No. 10 in September and No. 58 in August. The site bumped Apartment Guide (1.43 percent) down to the No. 10 position. MyNewPlace stepped up one spot to No. 11, ConnectWithLife, which had previously held that spot, dropped out of the top 20 last month.
AOL Real Estate climbed three spots to No. 12, making it one of the fastest-moving real estate-related sites in the rankings. Apartments.com went up one to No. 13, bumping RE/MAX Real Estate down to No. 15. ForRent.com and Rentals.com each jumped up two spots, to No. 14 and No. 16, respectively.
After falling to No. 31 in August and September, Realtor.com-operator Move Inc.’s Move.com site shot up to No. 17, with Redfin exiting the top 20.
LoopNet moved up one spot to No. 18. RealtyStore.com broke into the top 20 at No. 19 (up three places from No. 22), and HUD.gov rounded out the list at No. 20.
The top 10 websites got 31.6 percent of category traffic last month, up from 31.2 percent in September. The top 20 websites accounted for 42.5 percent of visits, up slightly from 42.3 percent in September. The top 100 sites saw 71.2 percent of visits in October, down slightly from 71.5 percent the month before.
Nine sites joined the top 100 last month: renttoowncentral.com, JustListed.com, Forleasebyowner.com, Monmouth County Association of Realtors, ThatRentalSite, RealCompOnline.com, Rentspeed.com, Sublet.com and Westfield Shopping Centres – United States. Each held a spot between No. 76 and No. 100.
These nine sites displaced MLS.com, Windermere Real Estate, Long & Foster, 9news.coloradonewhomes.com, Garden State Multi Listing Service – Members, Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage, RealtyNow.com, USAMLS.net and California Association of Realtors.
The average visit to this category lasted 8 minutes, 48 seconds in October, down from 9 minutes, 19 seconds in September.
The top 10 most popular real estate-related search terms last month were, in order, "realtor.com," "zillow," "apartments for rent," "realtor," "remax," "zillow.com," "century 21," "homes for sale," "houses for rent," and "real estate." All except "realtor.com," which represented 1.34 percent of clicks to real estate-related sites, accounted for less than 1 percent of all clicks.
Besides AOL Real Estate, fast-moving real estate-related websites include JustListed.com (up 39 places to No. 81), Las Vegas Realtor (up 141 places to No. 377), Bank Foreclosures Sale (up 44 places to No. 136), eWalk Virtual Tours (up 287 places to No. 870), RentalPropertyShop.com (up 732 places to No. 1,737), www.collincad.org (up 149 places to No. 500), Apartment Home Living (up 9 places to No. 31), Coldwell Banker United (up 364 places to No. 1,106), and Hasson Company Realtors (up 331 places to No. 1,100).
