The National Association of Realtors has given more than $1.4 million to the 14 winners of its "Game Changers Challenge," the association announced at NAR’s Midyear Meeting this week. The winners gave final presentations of their projects at the meeting.
The association issued the challenge to its roughly 1,400 state and local member associations last August for "innovative, game-changing ideas for new products, programs, processes or services."
The association received more than 200 submissions and chose the 14 winners in December. The association had pledged up to $2 million in awards.
"The goal of the program was to invest in our associations and members during a difficult and challenging time in the economy," said Jonathan Salk, NAR’s director of special projects.
The association’s leaders and a panel of housing experts judged the proposals. In addition to fully funding the winners, each got a coach to help them turn their ideas into reality.
The funds for the challenge came from NAR’s general funds. NAR declined to disclose the amount each winner received.
The association also gave 22 runners-up a total $171,000; the rest of the contenders each got a $500 credit from NAR towards any of the association’s certifications or designations, or for registration for NAR or state Realtor association annual meetings.
