Luxury. What defines it? When it comes to luxury real estate, where does a home cross over from nice and roomy to luxury?
It’s Luxury Month at Inman, the most glittering time of the year, and that’s got us wondering about what makes a home feel luxurious. That’s why we asked (and you answered): What says “luxury” to you? Is it a price point? Square footage? Is it the building materials or the number of garage bays? Is it all about the zip code or do you just know it when you see it? How do you define luxury and luxury real estate? Here are your thoughts:
- The materials used in the home, detail and workmanship along with location and views. The feel of the home when you enter the front doors. Amenities the home offers.
- Details in construction
- Location, chic, model, finishes, modern, architecture
- Both garage bays; latest, greatest amenities; and price point
- The details. The lighting from outside the house and inside
- Structural designer elements and finishes
- Custom one-of-a-kind finishes and details, like crystal cabinet knobs and push-button switches
- Top-of-the-line appliances and fixtures that are beautifully designed, ultra-luxury finishes, amazing views, outdoor space, gracious layouts for today’s lifestyle, suite of ultra-luxury building amenities, buildings with classic timeless architecture, well-trained building staff, garage in the building, premium locations, buildings that hold their resale value
- Steam room
- High ceilings
- It starts at the entrance to the property. Does it feel exclusive? The curb appeal: Is it gated? Does the landscape have a Wow factor? This Wow factor should continue inside with high ceilings, unique features, high-end appliances, lighting and details. Finally, what does the outdoor space provide (or amenities, if it is a condo). Is there a pool/pool house, outdoor kitchen/living space and are the grounds sweeping with amazing landscaping or gardens?
- Details in craftsmanship
- Having a “WOW” in every room pulls in buyers and can be as easy as going wireless.
- Large, spacious living areas with beautiful furniture and a stunning view!
- Quality materials, features and amenities
- Decadent finish out and furnishings
- Materials
- Luxury to me means entertaining guests in a kitchen where guests can all talk. You have enough space to do so with the most gourmet kitchen appliances such as Gaggenau, Miele, etc. Along with this, an attached outdoor space that is private but has amazing views of either the ocean or the mountains. Luxury is privacy and comfort with friends and family.
- Amenities that utilize a larger space well.
- Lighting
- We live in a heavily wooded rural area, which means fire alert is high at all times. What “feels” luxurious is beautifully landscaped 100 ft. defensible spaces surrounded by a well-maintained forest. Extra points for a gorgeous gate.
- Quality and craftsmanship
- Finishings
- Quality build, all conveniences built right in, high-end kitchen, gas. beautiful view with the outside incorporated inside, luxurious fabrics, high-end fixtures, cozy surroundings
- High-quality finishes and solid construction
