Compass launches new tech at 5th annual hackathon

Compass

Compass last week held its fifth annual hackathon with members of the company’s product and engineering teams creating a new application for the Compass Concierge program and a proprietary 3-D touring app.

Over five days, 119 participants spread across New York City, Seattle and Washington D.C. split into teams, which then competed to “create the best and most imaginative tools for our agents in a limited amount of time,” according to Compass.

Employees created a new app for the Compass Concierge program, from which agents can demonstrate to clients what their homes would look like after a Compass Concierge project, based on similar past projects.

Members of the product and engineering team also worked to create a proprietary three-dimensional touring app and an enhanced translator tool on every listing page.

“The entire company — agents and employees alike — submitted ideas to the 2019 Hackathon Board within the Compass Feedback Forum,” a Compass spokesperson told Inman. “The team received more than 120 idea submissions from across the company.”

The tools created are real, working prototypes, according to the Compass spokesperson.

Although the hackathon is in its fifth year, Compass invested heavily in tech development in 2019. The company acquired Contactually to build a proprietary customer relationship management tool and bolstered its tech team with other smaller acquisitions.

Compass now boasts four technology hubs in New York City, Washington D.C., Seattle and India.
