Boxed’s CEO and Founder Chieh Huang shared his six-year journey of building an online retailing giant from his garage to a warehouse in New Jersey and offices in Manhattan at Inman Connect Last Vegas 2019.
Boxed enables consumers buy everyday essentials in bulk online. Huang said that he built the business around the principles of convenience, price and brand, which is what he said that consumers want.
The company built robots and autonomous vehicles to transport the goods around the warehouse. It then retrained its warehouse staff to complete other tasks, and nobody lost their jobs.
Huang’s personal honors include being named to “Bloomberg 50,” Bloomberg Businessweek’s 50 people to watch in 2018, to National Retail Federation’s list of People Shaping Retail’s Future, as one of Crain’s 40 Under 40 and Goldman Sachs’ list of “100 Most Intriguing Entrepreneurs.” In addition, Entrepreneur Magazine included Chieh on its list of “The 50 Most Daring Entrepreneurs.”
