Debra Trappen, a coach and strategy consultant, urged her audience at Inman Connect Las Vegas to embrace change to be able to get through it.
“Be curious, get clear, embrace empathy, flip your fear, mind your self-talk [and] empower yourself — I dare you,” she said.
Trappen provided several examples of people who became the change they wanted to see during her talk. One example: Ines Hegedus-Garcia, who the Miami Association of Realtors has elected as its 2019 residential board president. The residential board promotes Miami and South Florida and organizes events and programming.
Hegedus-Garcia’s journey to leadership began when she noticed that there were many agents in her area who weren’t behaving professionally, and it was impacting consumers’ impressions of real estate agents as well. She went to her local industry trade association to ask them what she could do to help, Trappen said.
There were other women she pointed to as examples of those who leaned into change. Watch the video above to hear her full talk.
“The reality is that change is all around you,” Trappen said. “Could be a new brokerage model or new technology, or a friend or colleague [making a change]. Magic happens though when you learn to grow and stretch and embrace it,” she said.
