Grow or die! 3 tips for moving your business forward

If you are not growing, you are dying. I know that is a bold statement to make.

Life is characterized by the capacity for growth. Growth is essential to life and living the life of your dreams.

Are you growing your real estate business? Are you setting aside time for prospecting? Have you asked your clients for referrals? Did you listen to a new real estate podcast this week?

If your answer is yes, you are growing.

Or are you doing nothing? Are you being a “secret agent” and not reminding your sphere that you sell homes? Have you been “too busy” to follow up with leads? Or are you not motivated to learn new skills to better your sales game?

If this sounds like your current situation and you are not doing anything, then you are dying.

You must decide if you want to live intentionally and grow your real estate career intentionally. You will never hit your goals, carve out a successful career and build the business you dream of if you do not grow. You must take action. If not, you are just allowing life to get in the way.

If you do nothing, you will kill your career. It might be a slow death. Maybe you will get lucky and have a family member seek you out to help them find a home. Maybe another agent will throw some referrals your way. This could happen to keep you floating along and allow you to do the bare minimum to get by.

Sometimes, you have to destroy what is currently OK. Think of a kitchen remodel. Your current kitchen might get the job done. But if you want to transform the space into your dream kitchen, there will be a messy construction scene before you can have your beautiful new island and granite countertops emerge.

Calling strangers to convince them to let you sell their greatest asset can be tough. It can be messy and scary to put yourself out there and learn about sales, home inspections and everything in-between. But if you give it your all and keep trying, your efforts will pay off.

You must decide you want to be a rockstar real estate agent and grow. If you are not passionate about the business, then consider ending your career. Close the book, and move on to something that is more worthwhile of your time and effort.

You have to choose to focus, you have to choose to take action, you have to choose to grow, or you will die. Whatever you want in life is achievable. Here are three ways you can decide to grow.

1. Create a ‘stop doing’ list

Take inventory and write out all you do each day as it relates to your real estate business and daily schedule. Review and circle all the things you are doing that are not a priority.

Stop wasting your time and energy on these items. This will free up resources for you to better allocate. If you thought you were too busy for business development, you can now carve out time to grow your business.

2. Kill something off

Find something to kill off. Find something in your life you are currently pursuing that won’t have any dramatic effect, and kill it off. Stop doing it right now.

Commit to ending something that is wasting your time and taking mental energy, distracting your focus — and remove it from your life right now.

Maybe you discover you waste two hours everyday browsing Facebook and nothing positive has come from it. Stop the scrolling right now.

3. Take action

Find something you really want to do, take action, go out and choose to grow in that to focus on developing that particular area of your life.
