Redfin announced Monday it opened a new hub in Frisco, Texas, for its growing mortgage, iBuyer (Redfin Now) and software engineering teams. It marks the first Redfin outpost with an engineering team outside of the West Coast (the techie brokerage also has engineering teams in Seattle, its headquarters, and in San Francisco).
Ben “Ditto” Lasley, who’s been with Redfin in San Francisco for seven years, will move to Frisco, roughly 30 miles north of Dallas, to head-up the operations there.
“Dallas is a booming area with a lot of engineering talent,” Lasley said in a statement. “At the same time, it’s much more affordable than San Francisco or Seattle. We set out to find a growing metro with great talent and a different feel from our West Coast offices, and Dallas promises to be an excellent new home.”
The new office will serve as the headquarters for Redfin’s growing mortgage business, which has expanded to serve 12 states since it launched in 2017. It will also house a RedfinNow team, the company’s iBuying service which expanded to Dallas in February 2019.
“The Dallas engineers will have a unique opportunity to establish this new team from the ground-up and work alongside our agents and the folks building our Redfin Mortgage and RedfinNow businesses,” Alina Ptaszynski, a spokesperson for Redfin said. “The connectivity between our engineers and operations has always been a special part of Redfin’s culture and a competitive advantage, allowing us to build products to revolutionize the process of buying, selling and financing a home.”
The office will serve as the “home base,” for the home services, mortgage and tour automation teams.
“What I love about our Frisco office is how I’m collaborating with people from so many different parts of the company, and every one of them has the same scrappiness you’d expect at a startup,” Lasley said. “As the hub for multiple early-stage businesses, we’re able to combine a fun, entrepreneurial atmosphere with the awesome amenities and career opportunities of a national company like Redfin.”
