Built for Bing Crosby in 1957, the Rancho Mirage estate has a huge master bedroom, sprawling lawns and a pool — and is a relic of Hollywood’s Golden Age.
A property with a famous past is always an impressive sale — but a Rancho Mirage estate that was once owned by the original Academy Award-winning performer of ‘White Christmas’ and is rumored to have hosted JFK and Marilyn Monroe during a clandestine tryst is truly something special.
Built custom for Bing Crosby in 1957, the Rancho Mirage estate has actually served as an extravagant refuge from the kind of snow-covered treetops now made iconic in the singer’s performance of Irving Berlin’s ‘White Christmas.’
Designed in the Spanish villa style, the 6,700-square-foot property has an enormous master bedroom, sprawling lawns, a stone fireplace and a pool — but it’s true value lies in its history as a relic of the Hollywood Golden Age.
Over the years, Crosby has invited famous friends like Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz, Frank Sinatra and Ginger Rogers to party by the property’s pool and lounge around on its sprawling outdoor patios.
Meanwhile, a two-bedroom guest house on the property was even nicknamed the ‘JFK Wing’ as a reference to the spot where John F. Kennedy and Marilyn Monroe were rumored to have consummated their affair during one of their meetings.
The listing is represented by Douglas Elliman’s Linda Taglianetti, Fredrik Eklund, John Gomes, and Gail Vasquez.
The property is located at 70375 Calico Road in the prestigious Thunderbird Heights neighborhood of Palm Springs. According to Douglas Elliman’s Micro Market Report, property values in the area have jumped 30 percent in the past six months alone.
That said, a property with such a history is not always the easiest sale — over the years, different owners have taken it on and off the market in the hopes of finding a buyer who will appreciate its past enough to pay the high price tag. (It has also been listed for rent on Airbnb at $3,400 a night.)
