These are the 10 most sought-after tiny homes in the US

With competition to buy houses in the U.S. growing to historical heights, some people are turning to tiny homes as a solution to exorbitant prices and an inventory shortage.

Tiny homes, which are typically classified as individual residential properties under 600 square feet, have exploded in popularity among those who can fit the contents of their life within a minuscule housing unit.

After the financial crisis of 2008, the tiny home movement has come out as an alternative way for some people to own a home — these types of properties cost less and are typically located in places with notoriously high rents such as New York and California.

Redfin, which last month released a report on tiny homes, looked at some of the most desirable pint-sized properties across the country — and found that six out of the top 10 were in California.

The tiny homes, none of which had been listed on Redfin for more than 14 days at the time of the report’s release, were ranked by the number of Redfin favorites that they received on the brokerage’s website.

“It’s not surprising to see so many California homes on the list,” said Redfin Silicon Valley agent Kalena Masching in a statement. “A lot of West Coasters are embracing a more minimalist lifestyle, and also grappling with some of the highest home prices in the country. Many are willing to give up square footage if it means the opportunity to live in a neighborhood they desire.”
