7 ideas for celebrating your mom this Mother’s Day

Mom, mama, mother, mum — whatever the variation, it’s one of the world’s most-recognizeable words. I was curious how to define such a complex word, so I took to Google, where I found this definition: mother (noun) means: to give birth to (a child).

That’s a rather disappointing definition.

This article is about celebrating moms. So for the purposes of this piece and beyond, I’m going to upgrade the definition; mother (noun) means: a selfless, loving human, who sacrifices many of their wants and needs, for the wants and needs of a child (Susan Diranian, The Meaning of Being a Mother).

Now that we have a proper definition, let’s move on to celebrating the moms in our lives.

I don’t know about you, but I always have trouble in the gift-giving department. Honestly, on a scale of 1 to 10 “gifted” gift-givers, I am a 1. So, I enlisted a little help. Courtesy of The Coca-Cola Company, here are “7 Unique Ways to Celebrate Mom”:

Your mom likely has a few family photos that she treasures above all others. Take a cue from these siblings, and recreate the favorited pic.

We asked fellow real estate professionals on Facebook how they were planning to celebrate their moms this Sunday, and here’s what they said:

Take your mom for brunch or lunch — and spend the entire meal focusing on her, recommend Stacie Staub, Realtor at West + Main Homes, and April Long, team coordinator, Arnett|Rackley Mississippi Magnolia with Re/Max Partners.

If your mom is far away, send her flowers or a gift card early. So that she can enjoy her gift all weekend.

D.C.-based broker Cheryl Spangler recommends that you don’s send a digital Mother’s Day card, text message or Facebook post. If you can, make it an in-person celebration about her.
