Snapchat, Instagram and Facebook are compelling ways to spend time in 2018: Let’s all admit that right out the gate. But it’s also pretty easy to doubt their efficacy as business tools — how many listings do you really find on social media, anyway?
Chelsea Peitz is not a millennial, and using social media in every aspect of her life didn’t necessarily come naturally to her, but her background in psychology and ability to try new things has brought her to a place where “my business partners who I talk to every are people I met on social media apps,” she explains. And the neuroscience behind what makes apps useful (and even addictive) means that these social media tools can’t be ignored forever … unless your goal is to fade into obscurity.
She’ll be talking about how online communication changed her life in a general session at Inman Connect San Francisco, July 17 through 20 at the Hilton San Francisco Union Square. And besides Peitz’s call to action, you’ll also enjoy programming centered around helping your real estate business thrive — and plenty of networking and parties to boot.
“We can’t say ‘I’ll never do this,’” Peitz explained, “because we said that to a whole bunch of things that we now use every day.” Everybody knows at least one email or cell phone holdout who swore they’d never join the tribes, but it’s a rare holdout indeed who’s lasted this long against either tool, and the resistance timespan is only going to get shorter. So why not jump aboard early instead?
“It really is about disruption and mindset,” Peitz said. “I build my personal brand with $0 doing exactly what I’m going to tell agents to do, with no advertising. And I can speak to every single excuse, every single day — ‘I’m afraid of how I look; I don’t like how I’ll sound; I’m a private person.’ But it’s not about your preferences, and I can explain why with science.
“Don’t be the guy who bought the horses when the car came out,” she added. “You can’t help but connect with someone eye-to-eye, even if it’s through a screen.”
Learn how to generate leads with social media and connect with your sphere (and why it works), and how you can use the same strategies that have helped Peitz build a following. She’ll share everything at Inman Connect San Francisco in July.
