You either dig Nest smart home products, or you have no use for technology.
Nest Secure is the newest product to emerge from the innovative smart home device company’s development department.
Like its flagship, Kubrick-influenced learning thermostat, Nest Secure can be accessed through an iOS app. With it, you can arrange temporary access, create and edit passcodes, and arm or disarm the system.
The system can be paired with motions sensors (called Nest Detects — priced at $59) for wall, door and window mounting. Naturally, they’ll alert you via the app when what they’re watching is in any way disturbed.
For us dog lovers, there’s a setting that prevents those over-energized mini Australian Shepherds from triggering a sensor. (No word if Detect can alert users when it’s being eaten, though.)

Nest Tags (priced at $25) are keychain-sized disks that will turn the system on or off when tapped on Nest Guard — the central passkey pad, which is about the size of small stack of coasters.
A calm-voiced assistant politely lets you know how much time you have to leave once the alarm is activated. There’s also a series of reminder notifications in case you forgot to arm it.
Nest Tag, as small as a keychain
In addition to pairing with its outdoor cameras (priced at $99), Nest is offering a 24-hour monitoring service through a partner company for those customers not psyched on handling the oversight of the system.
Nest is all about elegant, “invisible” design. That is, its products blend beautifully with existing decor, but ignite conversation when noticed. In my opinion, the company’s catalog is the pinnacle of consumer product design.

Behind the imagination is Bould Design, an industrial design studio also responsible for the GoPro Hero 4, Roku streaming devices and the insanely cool Light L16 computational camera, among other gadget wants often found on websites like Uncrate and Gear Patrol.
Nest Secure would make an outstanding closing gift or product recommendation for buyers seeking efficient smart home devices. It’s also easy enough to be set up in vacant homes as a perk to special clients. When the house sells, pack it up and wait for the next listing.
