Attract the best agents with a willingness to listen and learn

Want to know what all terrible bosses have in common? They don’t listen.

Not only do people hate feeling like their opinion doesn’t count, people hate working for bosses who refuse to try new things. If you want to attract the best agents, you need to be willing to listen to them and eager to learn from them.

Think about it like this: why hire the best agents if you’re going to force them to do everything your way?

If they’re already succeeding in your market, your business might improve if you implement some of their unique strategies. Obviously, you don’t need to do everything your agents suggest. However, you should respect your agents enough to listen to their opinions with the willingness to learn from their suggestions.

To attract the best agents, be the boss millennials want 

Many of the best real estate agents these days happen to be millennials; that’s no surprise. What is surprising is the fact that many team leaders are completely clueless when it comes to managing millennials effectively.

Many team leaders assume millennials are more or less the same as other generations, which could also be why so many agents struggle to understand what millennial homebuyers want.

If you want to attract and keep millennial agents, you’re going to have to be the type of boss millennials want.

When it comes to being the type of boss millennials want and respect, think accessibility. The average millennial doesn’t respond well to bosses who stay locked away in an office out of sight.

To sell yourself and your office to millennial agents, you should demonstrate your involvement with employees on a day-to-day basis.

Delegate in a hands-off manner to keep your best agents

Once you’ve managed to hire the best agents in your market, you should do what you can to keep them.

One way to do this is to ensure agents find your work environment enjoyable. Give them tools and guidance to help them succeed, but don’t become overbearing.

Your employees, especially your agents, likely enjoy working with a certain degree of freedom. When you delegate tasks to them, you should do it in a hands-off manner.

Demonstrating trust in your employees by allowing them to complete tasks their way will help foster the type of work environment people enjoy. Besides, getting away from the micromanagement mentality will help you focus on big-picture tasks and will improve your work-life balance.
