Wireless technology has allowed many offices to be anywhere: a coffee shop corner in the morning, seat 32D on a flight, or between ordering drinks late at night. Today, some of us are lucky enough to work anywhere we need.
New developments have begun to adapt to the shift by introducing things like beacon technology, grand amenities packages, and on-site conference lounges. But few have directly addressed the reality of living and working in the same space, so why not put them together? That’s where Alexandria’s e-lofts comes in.
The idea at e-lofts is to give tenants the option for how they treat their space. Each unit is designed with an open floor plan — essentially an empty apartment with few (if any) dividing walls. Each unit has a bathroom and kitchen with stainless steel appliances.
From there, it’s up to the tenant. If the lessee wants to live in the space, so be it. If the lessee wants to use the unit as an office, that’s OK, too.

“We are excited to be opening our first e-lofts project in Alexandria,” e-lofts CEO Robert Seldin said in a press release. “This is the only product of its type that combines unmatched style with unprecedented amenities to meet the ever changing demands of both living and working today.”
Like the the shiny, 2016 equivalent of a Brooklyn artist’s loft, canvases are displayed up and down the walls, and a frameless mattress set rests at angle near ceiling reaching windows.
10 series unit
Units range in size from 600 square feet to 1,200 square feet. There are four different floor plans, each one similar but varying in size and bathroom location.
Prices start at $1,800 per month for the 6 Series floor plan (600 square feet) and go up to $2,910 for the 12 Series floor plan (1,200 square feet), which has two bedrooms and two bathrooms. The units offer 10-foot ceilings and moveable pocket walls.
The project
The concept might be a new venture right now, but e-lofts developer Conrad Cafritz plans to expand the plan into other cities. Helmed by Robert Seldin, e-lofts’ vision includes plans to take vacant properties around the country and turn them into rentable units.

There is a fitness center on-site, as well as bike storage, a community kitchen and a co-working club lounge. The building also has multiple conference rooms and workspaces. There are three soundproof music rooms in case any musicians live in the building or are paying members of the club.
That’s right. Not only is this an apartment/office building, non-residents can pay a fee to take advantage of the amenities.
