Networking — to many people, the idea behind this concept is standing around with a glass of wine after a long work day throwing business cards at people and trying to feign interest.
We have all been to networking events only to meet people who were boring. And we can surely think of tons of other things we would rather do.
But, as many established real estate agents will say, these networking events are important especially as you build your personal brand.
So how can we make networking events a little easier to swallow?
1. Seek out events that are interesting to you
There are tons of organizations out there that hold monthly events tied to other activities such as sports, cocktails, hobbies and more.
Find groups that rally around an activity that you actually like so you will be more inclined to go. If it feels less like a hassle or job, you will be more likely to drag yourself there after a long day.
2. Be consistent
Like so many marketing concepts in real estate, consistency is the name of the game.
Finding groups that have regular meetings is better than one-off events as they allow you to build relationships and consistently put your face in front of people.
Commit to going every month so that you start building these connections.
3. Capitalize on the connections you’ve made with consistent contact
You have probably heard of the 36-touch idea surrounding your sphere. If you haven’t, the general concept is that you should try to make a “touch” to every person in your sphere list 36 times a year to be top-of-mind.
Send an email to everyone you meet as soon as you get home or the next day and maintain this connection.
Networking doesn’t have to be boring, you just need to find a way to do it that works for you!
