Niche.com provides millions of reviews, polls and data on schools throughout the nation, which are then used to rank the top Houston-area school districts, basing it on student and parent reviews, state test scores, college readiness, graduation rates, SAT/ACT scores and teacher quality.
Katy Independent
Katy Independent is the top school district in Houston, according to Niche, and no. 13 in the Lonestar State, comprising 64 schools and 67,213 students. The district scored an A+ in academics, teacher quality, educational outcomes and student culture and diversity.
Friendswood Independent
Located in Texas City-League City Township, Friendswood Independent School District secured the no. 2 spot among Houston Metro school districts and no. 14 in the state. It has seven schools and over 6,000 students.
Pearland Independent
In Alvin-Pearland Township, the Pearland Independent School District, with 26 schools and over 20,000 students, ranks third among Houston schools and no. 17 in the state.
Clear Creek Independent
With almost 40,000 students and 47 schools, Clear Creek Independent School District in ranked no. 20 in the state and fourth in the Houston area.
Humble Independent
Securing fifth place in Houston, Humble Independent School District falls in the top-third districts across the state. Humble Independent includes 44 schools and nearly 40,000 students.
Conroe Independent
Conroe Independent ranks sixth in Houston, with 55,009 students across 57 schools. Conroe Independent ranks 49th in the state of Texas.
Round Top-Carmine Independent
In Round Top Township, the Round Top-Carmine Independent School District has just two schools and only 284 students, good for seventh in Houston and 56th in the state.
Cypress-Fairbanks Independent
Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District in Northwest Harris Township has 86 schools and 111,440 students, ages pre-k through 12th grade. The district is ranked eighth in Houston and 60th place in Texas.
Klein Independent
Klein Independent School District, also in Northwest Harris Township, has 49 schools and 48,253 students. It’s the ninth highest-rated district in Houston, coming in 64th place statewide.
Spring Branch Independent
Harris County’s Spring Branch Independent School District has 53 schools and 35,312 students, rounding out the 10 best districts in the Houston metro. Spring Branch is ranked 69th in Texas.
