The things that make us successful in real estate are the habits and behaviors that we develop over time to help us perform at a high level. Sometimes it’s easy to forget the big, obvious things staring us right in the face that have helped us become successful, though.
For instance, are you remembering to actively take control of your lead-generation and closings or just going with the flow? Are you actively focusing on dollar-productive, money-making tasks or letting yourself slide into busy work that doesn’t actually generate income? Are you avoiding a challenge because you’re afraid of failure? Are you waiting for success to arrive or taking concrete, practical actions to make it a reality?
In the first part of this series, we’re going to be drilling down on four key points:
- You have the power to control your own destiny. Your choices are a reflection of your character. Choose who you want to be, and live your daily life according to those rules.
- You only have so long to live the life of your dreams. We all have expiration dates. What if you knew what that date actually was? How would you live your life differently today? What would you be taking action on if you knew that waiting wasn’t really an option anymore?
- Being busy is not the same as being productive. In real estate, productivity comes from generating leads, following up, prequalifying, presenting, negotiating and closing. If it’s not on that list, you shouldn’t be doing it. Being purposeful is more powerful than being busy.
- Success is unlikely without failure. It’s OK to make mistakes. It’s not OK not to learn from them. Learn the lesson the first time, integrate it into your upgraded self, and move forward. The difference between a master and a beginner is that the master has simply failed more times. The master only achieves higher levels of success because he or she hasn’t given up. Avoiding failure keeps you stagnant. Embracing it moves you forward mentally, emotionally, spiritually and financially.
In today’s episode, we’re going to drill down on big, important truths that should remind you what you need to be focusing on, what you might be taking for granted and the areas where you may be over- or under-compensating in your business.
