Austin, Texas, is one of the most vibrant destination cities in the country, and arguably one of the best places to live.
With notable festivals like South by Southwest, great music and food, and big-name employers like Dell, there is much to do and see. And economic opportunities to keep homebuyers active.
But city living isn’t for everyone, but luckily Austin has many suburbs that are appealing in their own ways.
Rollingwood population breakdown
Three miles west of downtown Austin lies the city of Rollingwood. Also in Travis County, the population is 1,588. It’s a close commute for those who work at the computer giant, the University of Texas at Austin, or any of the startups that are taking advantage of the tech scene.
The median age of residents of Rollingwood is 45. That’s because the fewer than 500 households have a pretty even spread of age groups among them, except for one.
In the city, the population was spread out with the largest demographic being those between 25 to 44, at about one-third, and the smallest being the college-aged cohort: those from 18 to 24, who make up a little less than 5 percent of the residents. About 75 percent of those households are married couples.
Living in this bedroom community is not cheap.
Living in Rollingwood
The median price of a home, according to Bestplaces.net, is $741,900. It’s a good thing, then, than median income for a household in the city was $108,835, and the median income for a family was $117,851. About one-half of 1 percent of the population is below the poverty line.
Rollingwood is served by the Eanes Independent School District. Parks and recreation facilities are available, offering a wide variety of recreational activities, some of which take advantage of Texas’s friendly outdoor environment.
The city boasts a Women’s Club and a Neighborhood Association. The Neighborhood Association puts on several family-friendly events throughout the year, including a barbecue and an Easter egg hunt. And it would not be July 4th without the good old-fashioned annual parade.
So for those who want easy access to a cool city, with the comfort of a bedroom community, Rollingwood might be worth a look.
