Apartment List reports Houston rent second highest in Texas

Welcome to Apartment List’s February 2016 Houston Rent Report.

With rents rising all across the nation, we took a look at Texas cities to see how they fared, and Houston is one of the most expensive cities in the state.

Houston rent is just cheaper than Dallas

Houston is Texas’ second most expensive city, with an average two-bedroom price of $1,520 and one-bedrooms at $1,190.

This puts Houston rents narrowly behind Dallas rents (two-bedrooms averaging $1,560 and one-bedrooms at $1,220) for very small price differences of $40 and $30, respectively.

Houston rent growing slower than the nation

Houston experienced the sixth fastest rent growth over the past year, at a 2.4 percent increase. Houston fared quite well in terms of year-over-year rent growth, relative to cities such as Austin and Dallas, who experienced 7.8 percent and 4.8 percent rent growth respectively.
