If you work with clients relocating to The Lone Star State, or want to, Houston is a good place for digital creatives, developers and marketers to find work.

Onward Search, a Connecticut-based recruitment and staffing firm for just those types of folks conducted year-end research on the most in-demand creative callings. They tallied their placement data for the markets that they serve, and came up with information about how easy it is to find work in 50 job categories.

Their team crunched the numbers to find the top 20 markets for the careers in which they place those 50 types of talent.

The organization places clients in jobs from nine U.S. offices, and one in the UK.

New York City dominated the rankings for the top market for many types of jobs. But, many other cities have a strong creative class ready and able to take on digital and marketing tasks.

In general, Houston held strong about the middle part of the list, but did come out with a few categories that landed in the top 10. Throughout the six categories of placements that the company makes, Houston residents – or those who hope to work there – can find a variety of opportunities.

The categories of positions include:

  • Creative
  • Interactive
  • Digital Marketing
  • Development
  • Mobile
  • User Experience (UX).

And, job-seekers can rejoice: there is a salary guide, too. Each type of job is ranked for high, average and low salaries for each market and role.

If your thing is a career as community manager in digital marketing, you’re in luck in Houston. Onward Search says that role in Houston ranked fourth in the 20-slot survey. Fifth place spots also were found in two other areas of digital marketing –  account executive and traffic manager roles earned those spots.

Houston also had two 20th place entries on the list, but from an annual pay standpoint, that’s not a terrible thing. User experience (UX) developers and WordPress developers in Houston took the 20th place slot on their respective lists.

But, a UX developer can expect to bring home somewhere between $79,000 and $116,000 in Houston. WordPress developers will earn between $57,000 and $84,000 for their roles.

The great state of Texas has plenty to offer from a quality of life perspective, from cultural institutions and a variety of universities to hone skill. And, if the beach is your thing, it’s not that far away.
