A Miami-based company is focusing on the design and assemblage of prefabricated homes that resemble hobbit dwellings.
Green Magic Homes is combining building technology with nature to create earth-sheltered dome homes, which are composed of prefabricated vaulted panels, are confined laterally by walls in reinforced soil, and feature “earth berms” on the sides and roofs of the structures.
The dome homes are available in nine different floor plans, ranging from compact studios to 1,900 square feet, four-bedroom homes.
Ordering a home will cost an individual a $1 per square foot for design only, with a minimum design order of $500, meaning these homes must be at least 500 square feet. An estimated final cost for various sized homes is absent from the company’s site, perhaps indicating these dwellings aren’t cheap.
According to the company, its first dwelling was assembled in east Tennessee. The structure, which took roughly a month to build from manufacturing to assembly, now houses a recycling center.
Normally the process from the payment of the retainer fee to delivery takes thirty days, according to the company, which added a 100-square-meter house takes 10 days to manufacture. Once manufactured in Cancun and delivered to a site, a one-bedroom cabin will take three people roughly three days to assemble and seal. A three-bedroom house can take five or six days to assemble.
