5 tips for your buying and building clients

I’m the founder and CEO of Real Restoration, a Chicago-based construction and restoration firm. I’m going to share with you how to best educate your clients before purchasing or building a home.

These tips are often overlooked, which is why it’s so important for agents to be knowledgeable on these matters to serve clients proactively.

Whether it’s winterizing the home before seasons change or converting to a more efficient lighting alternative, I’ll give you a behind-the-scenes look at potential problems and solutions from a builder’s perspective.

1. Secure a full-service contractor

A full-service contractor will have the resources to set you up with the best architect, electrician or designer and save you time in doing the research.

2. Plan properly in the preconstruction phase

This is key to any building success. It ensures the overall process runs smoothly and on time with limited surprises.

3. Organize the home in a way that prioritizes space

Arrange storage into seasonal sections for easy access when the season arrives. Note immediate needs when planning the space to avoid clutter.

4. Convert existing lighting into LED product

This simple switch reduces maintenance and electrical costs and is less harmful to the environment.

5. Winterize the home before seasons change

Make sure to turn off exterior waterspouts. Weatherstrip the doors and windows. Have the furnace serviced and cleaned before turning it on for the winter.

Not only will these tips help to increase the longevity of the home, but they can also be taken as precautionary measures to ensure clients expectations are met.
