One analysis of homeowner perceptions suggests San Francisco is not one of the best places in America to own a home.
Based on a survey conducted by Porch and Redfin, the analysis ranked San Francisco as the 47th best place to own a home out of 66 core-based statistical areas.
Of note, cities were required to have only 28 homeowner responses in order to be analyzed and ranked. San Francisco’s overall ranking is based on the responses of 81 local homeowners.
Those surveyed were asked 31 questions that pertained to 10 metrics: climate, commute, economics, education, resident satisfaction, healthiness, real estate, safety, taxes and walkability.
San Francisco scored best when it came to walkability (7th), climate (16th), commute (16th) and healthiness (28th).
The city ranked last in the “real estate” metric (66th) and second to last when it came to safety (65th). The city’s taxes ranked 60 out of 66.
In terms of economics, education and resident satisfaction, the city ranked 43rd, 46th and 45th, respectively.
This survey’s findings seem to contradict another recent report that pointed to San Francisco suburbs as being some of the best locales to live.
According to a recent ranking from Business Insider, Atherton and Piedmont ranked as two of the top ten suburbs in the nation. Orinda and Hillsborough were also recognized as top 50 suburbs.
