WalletHub determined real estate property taxes by dividing the median real estate tax payment in a state by its median home price. It applied that rate to the median value of a home in the U.S. — $173,200 — to get the amount.
The company then used the rates in order to obtain the dollar amount paid as real estate tax for a house with a median value of $173,200.
