Home price growth accelerates in February

Home prices continued to rise in February, posting higher annual gains than in January, according to the latest Case-Shiller 20-city Composite.

The index showed prices rising 0.5 percent from January to February, marking their largest month-over-month increase since July 2014. On an annual basis, prices were up 5 percent in February compared to 4.5 percent in January.

“Home prices continue to rise and outpace both inflation and wage gains,” said David M. Blitzer, managing director and chairman of the index committee at S&P Dow Jones Indices.

Denver and San Francisco posted the highest annual gains, with prices rising 10 and 9.8 percent, respectively.
