NEW YORK — Alexis Ohanian, co-founder and executive chairman of social media behemoth Reddit, offered a $50 advertising credit to Real Estate Connect attendees in the spirit of the advice he had for them today: Make something people want and help them use it.
Ohanian told Connect attendees how to get the credit — text your email address to 718-305-4731 — during a presentation he gave on how to think like a startup.
While scrappy startups, brokers and agents may not be able to afford to offer free services, those companies and people who go above and beyond to engage potential customers often find the most success in growing their businesses, Ohanian said.
One tried-and-true way to employ that strategy is by engaging people who leave comments on your website, or tracking down and making contact with people who are discussing your products or services (or topics relevant to them) on other websites.
If you want to explore doing this on Reddit, you can find out if anyone is discussing your products or services by typing your domain name into the following URL: reddit.com/domain/[your website URL].
Entrepreneurs should market their products and services on the Internet the same way they would in person.
“If you walked into a room of 100 people and said, ‘Hey, buy my stuff, thanks,” that wouldn’t take you very far, Ohanian said. “You build relationships.”
