Rental site Zumper, fresh off a third-place finish at Realogy’s “FWD” startup pitch competition, will be ready for writswatches and other wearable devices running Android Wear when the operating system is released in the next few weeks.
Android Wear is an operating system that allows smart watches and other wearable devices being developed by LG, Samsung and Motorola to be paired with smartphones running on the Android 4.3 operating system or higher.
Zumper’s Android app, which is getting a shoutout at Google’s I/O developer conference today, has been updated to push new listings that hit the market in consumers’ target neighborhoods to Android Wear devices in real time, said Zumper CEO Anthemos Georgiades.
In addition to the push-notification feature, the Zumper app is ready to help consumers facilitate phone calls to property managers right from Android Wear compatible devices. Users can tap to make a call with their Android-connected smartphone, Georgiades said. Users can favorite the new listings that get pushed to the device to look at later on their smartphone, he said.
In the future, Zumper plans to release a location-based feature similar to Trulia’s that will alert users of Android Wear devices to nearby places to rent when they pass close by, Georgiades said.
Yesterday, Trulia announced that it, too, has revamped its Android app to work with devices running Android Wear. Trulia’s Android Wear app will include the ability to alert users to nearby new listings, a feature Trulia added to its smartphone apps in May.
