Trulia releases Android tablet, rental apps

Trulia today released two new free mobile apps, including an app that is optimized for Android tablets and an Android app focused on the rental market.

The new Android apps give a nod to the growth of Google’s Android platform for mobile devices, which led with a 41.8 percent market share among smartphones during the three-month period ending in July, according to a report by metrics company comScore Inc.

Apple Inc.’s mobile platform had a 27 percent market share during that period, while Research in Motion’s BlackBerry platform fell to a 21.7 percent market share.

The tablet market is lopsided in favor of Apple’s iPads for now. International Data Corporation reported that Apple’s tablet computers have a global market share of about 68.3 percent, with IDC research analyst Jennifer Song forecasting that the market share for Android tablets may grow to 25.9 percent by the end of 2011. That still represents a market share lead greater than 40 percentage points for Apple’s tablets through the end of the year, PCMag.com reported.

The tablet app, Trulia Real Estate for Tablets, features:

  • full-screen map-based search;
  • full-screen slideshows;
  • neighborhood information, including amenities such as restaurants, schools and other points of interest; and
  • agent contact information.

And the rental app, Trulia – For Rent, allows users to:

  • add photos and notes of visited rental properties;
  • save or delete properties; and
  • sign up for search alerts for user-specified criteria.

Truila in March 2011 launched its original Android app and an iPad app, and its iPhone app made its debut in September 2008.

Trulia’s original Android app is listed as the third most popular real estate app in the Android Market, behind No. 1 Zillow Android app and No. 2 Realtor.com Android app.

Earlier today, Trulia’s original Android app had an average user rating of 4.3 out of five stars, based on 3778 user reviews, compared to the Zillow app’s 4.3 out of five average rating based on 14,908 total ratings and the Realtor.com app’s 4.2 average rating based on 3,225 total ratings.
