ForSaleByOwner.com exec promoted

ForSaleByOwner.com’s general manager, Eddie Tyner, has been named head of classified ad strategy at the Tribune Co., as part of sweeping management changes announced in the wake of the Oct. 22 resignation of controversial CEO Randy Michaels.

Recognizing the importance of digital and mobile revenue, Tribune Co. is renaming its Tribune Interactive division Tribune Digital, according to an internal memo to employees posted on Jim Romenesko’s Poynter.org media industry blog.

The memo named nine Tribune Co. management employees who are leaving the company. Some had longstanding ties to Michaels, Chicago Tribune reporter Phil Rosenthal said on his Tower Ticker media blog. Michaels, a former radio shock jock, resigned Oct. 22 amid complaints that he and his managers fostered a hostile work environment.

The memo said Tyner will report to Don Meek, formerly chief revenue officer for Tribune Co.’s publishing and interactive operations, who has been head of Tribune Digital.

Tyner will lead Tribune company’s "Marketplaces" strategy — classified ads — and ForSaleByOwner.com will be folded into his organization, the memo said.

ForSaleByOwner.com helps homeowners who want to sell their homes without a Realtor market their properties by publicizing their homes on the Internet and providing other tools including property pricing reports and yard signs.

In addition to advertising homes on ForSaleByOwner.com, the company syndicates listings to partners including Yahoo! Real Estate, Google, USA Today and Facebook.

ForSaleByOwner.com also works with a network of flat-fee listing brokers to place listings in multiple listing services and Realtor.com, the official site of the National Association of Realtors.
