Six months after Yardi Systems’ acquisition of real estate data site PropertyShark, the site’s general manager and former CEO has resigned, according to Crain’s New York Business.
Bill Staniford joined Manhattan-based PropertyShark in May 2006 as vice president of sales, according to his LinkedIn profile. He became the site’s CEO in February 2008 and then the general manager in April 2010 when Goleta, Calif.-based Yardi Systems, an investment and property management software company, acquired PropertyShark.
"After the acquisition, the company wasn’t a good fit for me," Staniford told Crain’s. "I don’t perform well in larger entities. I’m used to calling the shots."
PropertyShark aggregates real estate data and listings covering about 20 major markets, including New York City, Miami, the San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles and Seattle. After joining the firm, Staniford helped PropertyShark triple traffic to its site and double its revenue in 2007, Crain’s said. Under his tenure, the site also began offering residential listings, signing on high profile brokerages such as The Corcoran Group and Prudential Douglas Elliman as subscribers.
PropertyShark founder and general manager of PropertyShark’s Romania office, Matthew Haines, will be taking over Staniford’s duties, according to Crain’s. Staniford is not yet sure what he’ll do next, though he has signed a non-compete clause, meaning his next venture cannot be real estate-related.
"I have a couple of different concepts for a new company," Staniford said.
Staniford made headlines recently after divulging a three-month romantic relationship with Russian spy Anna Chapman. He said he did not reveal any confidential information to Chapman, who claimed to head an online real estate search company.
Last month, Yardi acquired Point2 Technology Inc., a software company specializing in the distribution of property information and other tools and services for the residential real estate and heavy equipment industries.
