NYC broker embraces ‘mobile tagging’

A New York City broker is incorporating scannable quick-response bar codes in her print ads, allowing would-be buyers to use camera-equipped, Web-enabled smartphones to click on the codes and be taken to a landing page on the broker’s website.

Broker Toni Haber plans to put the "QR codes" on t-shirts and hats to market her properties to vacationers in the Hamptons this summer, BrickUnderground reports.

Inman News columnist Joseph Ferrara envisions that QR codes will also be printed on real estate signs, allowing potential buyers to "do a drive-by" with their smartphone camera and be linked to a Web page with a video or virtual tour of the home, listing details, photos, neighborhood information, driving directions, and the listing agent’s contact information.

It’s easier and faster to take a picture or scan a QR code than type a website URL, Ferrara said, and early adopters of "mobile tagging" will get extensive mainstream and social media coverage that will arouse curiousity and consumer interest.
