Last week, Realtors from all over the country descended upon Washington, D.C., to attend the National Association of Realtors annual midyear meetings and trade expo. Of course, many of those Realtors were tweeting along the way. The meetings continued through Saturday, May 16th, and you can catch a recap of midyear-related tweets by searching for the official #midyear tag.
Some of the more interesting tweets centered around the MLS IDX search-engine indexing controversy that arose last week, as we reported here at Inman News. The debate was a focal point of NAR social media manager Todd Carpenter’s presentation to communication directors at the conference. Ben Martin, Director of Communications for the Virginia Association of REALTORS covered the presentation, and the reaction from attendees:
The meeting of an MLS policy committee, at which the policy in question was actually reviewed, was the subject of many tweets on Thursday morning. Among the highlights: tweets from Jay Thompson, who was appearing before the committee to represent the interests of Realtors concerned about the enforcement of a policy restricting search engines’ indexing of IDX listings. After speaking before the committee, and discussion by the committee, Thompson was among the first to tweet about a successful change to the policy:
Jay subsequently sent out a tweet with a picture of the actual revised policy to all the other twitter users around the country who were not at the meetings, yet waiting anxiously to know how the issue would be resolved:
The midyear meetings were covered widely on Twitter, and perhaps this trend will continue at NAR’s annual conference and expo in San Diego this fall.
