NAR’s top exec to speak at Connect

Longtime National Association of Realtors staffer Dale Stinton became CEO of the powerful real estate trade group in late 2005.

Stinton has overseen the association during a challenging time of changing markets and a lengthy legal battle with the Justice Department.

The CEO previously served as chief financial officer and chief information officer for NAR, and has worked with the trade group for more than 20 years. He has served on the board of directors of RE FormsNet, the association’s electronic forms business, as well as Sentrilock, the association’s lockbox business. He also has served as co-chairman of the Real Estate Transaction Standards Cross Industry Standards Group.

Stinton will speak at Real Estate Connect in San Francisco, July 31-Aug. 3, on a panel with Zillow co-founder and CEO Rich Barton.

Here are Stinton’s answers to a set of questions posed by Inman News:

What was your first job?

Summer job – Rebar Assistant – basically a steelworker.

You took over the NAR reins in 2005. What’s been your biggest challenge so far in running the business?

Successfully procuring the first dues increase in 13 years.

How would you define NAR’s technology agenda?

Holistic and open-minded.

If you had one thing to do over again, what would it be?

Learn to type.

What style of home do you live in and when did you buy it?

French Georgian – 17 years

What worries keep you awake at night?

Government spending.

Describe your dream home:

On the beach in the Cayman Islands.

What lesson did you learn in the last year?

Fast isn’t always best.

What’s the strangest thing you ever packed in a suitcase?

A hammer.

What would your second career choice be?

Architecture.

What kind of music do you listen to?

Country.

Who is your hero?
