Long-term mortgage interest rates were lower Monday, and the benchmark 10-year Treasury bond yield sank to 4.8 percent.
The 30-year fixed-rate average dropped to 5.81 percent, and the 15-year fixed rate was down at 5.59 percent. The 1-year adjustable dipped to 5.38 percent.
The 30-year Treasury bond yield decreased to 4.91 percent.

Mortgage rate figures are according to Bankrate.com, which publishes nightly averages based on its survey of 4,000 banks in 50 states. Points on these mortgages range from zero to 3.5.
In other economic news, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 8.25 points, or 0.07 percent, finishing at 12,661.74. The Nasdaq was down 5.28 points, or 0.21 percent, closing at 2,470.6.
