Jewish museum buys building in Philly

Binswanger today announced that The National Museum of American Jewish History has purchased a four-story building in Philadelphia for $9.5 million.

Known as the “KYW Building,” the property was built in 1971 and is located at 101 South Independence Mall. It has been home to some of Philadelphia’s most prominent media, including CBS-3 Television, KYW 1060-AM and WYSP 94.6-FM. In fact, the building was the original home of the Phil Donohue Show.

The existing building is slated to be leveled and a new museum is planned. It is to include an efficient exhibition area, gift shop, rental opportunities and possibly an on-site parking facility, according to a press statement.

Philadelphia-based Binswanger, an international, full-service real estate organization that operates worldwide, represented the seller, Stephen Associates, in the transaction.
