Cendant Mobility changes name to Cartus

Cendant Mobility, a subsidiary of Cendant Corp., said today that it has officially changed its name to Cartus, a name derived from “carte” or “charta,” suggesting the art and technique of making maps (cartography) to plan or delineate one’s future.

Cartus annually assists more than 100,000 transferring employees with moves into and out of more than 140 countries.

“Our new name evokes reach, exploration and growth,” said Kevin Kelleher, president and CEO of Cartus, in a statement. “For 50 years we have been helping our clients chart new courses and navigate new worlds. We now begin a new era in our development — one without boundaries, one poised to serving our clients’ evolving needs in new ways.”

The name change is the result of Cendant’s previously announced decision to spin off its four distinct business lines as stand-alone, publicly traded companies and to retire the Cendant name. Cartus is part of Cendant’s Real Estate Services Division, which will become Realogy Corp. The Division’s name change will take effect upon the completion of its previously announced spin-off from Cendant, anticipated in June 2006, the company said.

Cartus’ clients include more than 60 percent of the Fortune 50 and numerous government agencies and affinity organizations, the company said. Cartus has recently grown its operations hub in Singapore and simultaneously strengthened its presence in China through its office in Shanghai, the company said.
