A former president of a Missouri title company and his wife died of self-inflicted gunshot wounds Sunday at their home, media reports said Wednesday.
Title insurance company president Thomas Kurzenberger Sr., 65, and his wife, Andrea Kurzenberger, 62, died of self-inflicted gunshot wounds Sunday at their home in Eureka, authorities told the St. Louis, Mo., Post-Dispatch.
Kurzenberger Sr. founded Title Insurers Agency Inc. in 1981 and served as its president at the main office in Clayton until it collapsed in June amid a loss estimated at $5.8 million, accounts said.
His son, Thomas B. Kurzenberger Jr., a former vice president of the business, was sentenced on Jan. 24 to six years in prison for taking $2.7 million from customers’ escrow accounts, according to reports. Prosecutors said Kurzenberger Jr. had a cocaine addiction and used more than $162,000 to pay off credit card charges at a strip club in Sauget, media accounts said.
Two days later, Kurzenberger Sr., 65, was indicted on one count of mail fraud and four counts of wire fraud, reports said. The indictment accused him of making fraudulent withdrawals from of more than $1.5 million from escrow accounts to pay for general operating expenses of the business, according to reports.
