Man convicted in assault, murder of real estate broker

A jury has convicted a man in the 2002 sexual assault and murder of a real estate broker in Yorkville, Canada, according to a news report.

The Toronto Star newspaper reported that Nelson DeJesus – who was formerly convicted in the gunpoint rape of a 17-year-old woman in 1995 – is guilty of first degree murder in the killing of Lisa Posluns, a 38-year-old real estate broker.

The 1995 rape was “one of a string of convictions, several violent, (DeJesus) incurred dating from the late 1980s,” the newspaper reported.

DeJesus was sentenced to life in prison for the 2002 slaying of Posluns. He reportedly sexually assaulted her and stabbed her several times before slitting her throat. He had reportedly worked as a cleaner at the building where Posluns had an office. DNA evidence linked DeJesus to the crime.

A police inspector told reporters that DeJesus carried a “rape kit,” including a knife, handcuffs and balaclava, when he was arrested almost 5 months after Posluns’ murder, according to the news report.
