The National Association of Home Builders will host a National Green Building Conference in March that is expected to draw about 1,000 builders, remodelers, developers, architects, engineers and other home-building professionals, the association announced today.
The conference, which will feature new products and educational opportunities for association members who build homes with a focus on environmental preservation, will be held in Albuquerque, N.M.
Ray Tonjes, Green Building Subcommittee chairman for the association and a a custom home builder in Austin, Texas, said, “We will offer exhibitors, presenters and sponsors an outstanding opportunity to improve their knowledge, increase their contacts and network.”
The conference will also feature a new “green building” educational seminar from the NAHB University of Housing makes its debut at this year’s conference. This module will include two days of discussions about strategies for incorporating green-building principles into homes without driving up the cost of construction and for providing buyers with lower energy and maintenance costs, improved indoor air quality and long-term savings.
Other seminars include a detailed look at NAHB’s Model Green Home Building Guidelines, “Green by Design,” led by green building architect Peter Pfeiffer; a detailed look at green residential remodeling; and “Taking Building Science from the Conference to the Construction Site.”
Attendees can also tour a straw bale and adobe home from designer and builder Ted Owens, co-founder of Syncronos Design Inc., a 17-year-old company that focuses on energy-and-resource-efficient building design that emphasizes superb aesthetics as a major green-building element.
NAHB has partnered with Green Builder to present Vision House ’06, a green building demonstration house that shows how sustainability can be accomplished without sacrificing design or exceeding budget constraints.
Also at the conference, the winners of the 2005 Green Building Awards will be honored. These awards go to individuals, organizations and companies that have made contributions to the principles of residential green building.
Conference registration information is available by contacting registrar@nahb.org. Sponsorship opportunities are available by contacting Julie L. Mines at jmines@nahb.com; exhibitors can find out about remaining booth space by contacting Christopher Hood at chood@nahb.com.
