Home sales in South Carolina climbed 19 percent in July from a year ago, the South Carolina Association of Realtors reported.
Realtors recorded 7,122 sales last month, up from 5,976 in July 2004.
To date, a total of 41,746 homes have been sold in South Carolina in 2005, up 21 percent from the 34,495 homes sold during the same period last year.
The median price of homes sold in South Carolina went up 7 percent for the month to $149,100, and has increased by 9 percent year-to-date compared to the same period last year.
Coastal Carolinas (Myrtle Beach/North Myrtle Beach and surrounding areas) saw the biggest increase in sales for the month (up 53 percent) and Hilton Head Area saw the next largest increase (up 48 percent). Other areas that saw significant increases were Sumter and Realtor Association of the Greater Pee Dee (Florence and surrounding areas), both up by 27 percent. With the exception of Greenwood, all participating Realtor boards/associations saw an increase in sales for year-to-date totals. Coastal Carolinas (Myrtle Beach/North Myrtle Beach and surrounding areas) experienced the highest at 41 percent.
Except for Realtor Association of the Greater Pee Dee’s July median price figure, all participating boards/associations reported increases in median price for July and year-to-date totals. Coastal Carolinas (Myrtle Beach/North Myrtle Beach and surrounding areas) led the way with a 20 percent increase for July and 24 percent increase for year-to-date.
The South Carolina Association of Realtors is one of the largest professional trade associations in the state, representing more than 15,500 members.
