Z57 exec. has a thing for retro furniture

Tim Johnson is a seasoned veteran when it comes to driving technology partnerships. He currently is executive vice president of Z57, where he oversees all aspects of the San Diego-based real estate Internet marketing company’s strategic development.

Prior to joining Z57, Johnson was vice president of product marketing and business development for J2 Global, a provider of unified messaging. In addition to driving the technology partnerships, he held responsibility for all strategic alliances integrating the messaging platform for deployment over the J2 global network.

Prior to J2, Johnson served as the senior director of strategic alliances for Iomega Corp., as well as the worldwide director of product management. Before joining Iomega, Johnson was a managing partner and executive vice president of sales and marketing for the Markman Co., a technology products and services firm generating $100 million in annual revenue.

Here are his answers to a set of questions posed by Inman News:

What type of home did you grow up in and where?

A three-bedroom ranch style home in Arroyo Grande, Calif.

What style of home do you live in and when did you buy it?

A three-bedroom eclectic (hodge podge) in Carlsbad, Calif., bought in 2001.

What worries keep you awake at night?

Providing for four kids and a wife with an appetite to invest in real estate.

Describe your dream home?

A 2,800-square-foot, single-story horseshoe-shaped home with a west-facing ocean view. It would have a pool on an Oceanside acre of flat lawn with a dirt track for gas-powered recreational toys.

What lesson did you learn in the last year?

Be careful what you ask for because you just might get it. (Professionally speaking).

What was your first job?

Busboy in fancy La Canada Steak House.

What’s the strangest thing you ever packed in a suitcase?

A 100-watt amplifier to light up the villa in Cabo San Lucas.

What would your second career choice be after real estate?

Retro furniture collecting, (and selling) with a side gig of tricking out back yards into the ultimate Tropical, Tiki, Polynesian, and Palapa retreats.

What kind of music do you listen to?

Classic rock, early jazz and samba.

Who is your hero?

My wife – Debra Dewhurst Johnson.
