Real estate: The week ahead

• The House Committee on Financial Services will hold a hearing on July 20, to receive testimony from Federal Reserve Board Governors on monetary policy and the state of the economy. The hearing is slated for 10 a.m., EDT, in Washington, D.C.

• The National Consumer Law Center will hold a seminar on predatory mortgage lending and bankruptcy training, July 20-22, in Boston. Attorneys will learn how to spot predatory loans and what to do about it, as well as background on the issue and federal laws that aim to protect victims.

• The Florida Association of Mortgage Brokers will kick off its 2005 Convention and Tradeshow July 20-23, in Kissimmee, Fla.

• The Housing Assistance Council will hold the Rural Gateway Training Conference, July 20-22, in Forrest City, Ark. The event will focus on “Building Organizations, Building Homes: A Practitioner’s Workshop on Rural Housing, Economic Development and Infrastructure Development in the Delta.”

• The National Neighborhood Coalition will hold a roundtable discussion on “Washington, D.C. – A Divided City,” July 21, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m., EDT, at the coalition’s headquarters in Washington, D.C. The discussion will explore challenges and opportunities generated by a changing economy and the fast pace of development on low-income neighborhoods.
