Real estate leadership changes at Cendant

Cendant Real Estate Services Division officials announced today the appointment of Thomas R. Kunz as the new president and CEO for Century 21 Real Estate Corp. The resignation of Van Davis, the former president and CEO, was announced less than two weeks ago.

Kunz for the past two years served as president of Century 21 Award, an independently owned and operated real estate brokerage with 12 offices and 750 sales associates throughout San Diego and Riverside counties in California. Century 21 Award was ranked second in the entire Century 21 System in 2003, generating more than $2 billion in closed sales volume and $53 million in adjusted gross commissions. The firm also ranked in the top 10 nationally among all Century 21 affiliates with 5,733 closed transaction sides last year.

“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to lead Century 21 into the future,” Kunz said in a statement. “This is definitely a homecoming for me, and I look forward to building on many of the relationships that I have established through my years of affiliation with the Century 21 system and Cendant. This business is 100 percent about relationships. It’s all about communication and focus on the end result.”

A Utah native, Kunz earlier served as senior vice president of real estate franchise sales for Cendant in the Western U.S. region. From 1982 to 2001 he served in various executive roles for Century 21 Real Estate Corp., including field communication, franchise sales, systems implementation, system-wide recruiting, broker automation and regional development.  Prior to his career in real estate, Kunz owned his own employment agency and served as president of a software company. He served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam and is a member of the board of directors for Easter Seals Southern California.

Davis had stepped in to a leadership role at Century 21 in 2000, as former Century 21 CEO Bob Moles took the reigns as CEO of the then-new Cendant Real Estate Franchise Group. Moles resigned from his post in April, and was replaced by Alex Perriello, who formerly served as president and CEO of Coldwell Banker Real Estate Corp. Moles has since joined Intero Real Estate Services in California as chairman.

Perriello said in a statement, “Tom understands the history and culture of the Century 21 system from the perspective of an affiliate broker as well as from a franchise service and support standpoint. In this role, he will now be responsible for the world’s largest residential real estate sales organization with more than 118,000 brokers and agents worldwide.”

Cendant Corp.’s Real Estate Franchise Group represents about 13,000 residential and commercial franchised real estate offices and more than 265,000 sales associates who are affiliated with the Century 21, Coldwell Banker, Coldwell Banker Commercial, ERA and Sotheby’s International Realty brands.
