Liniger nixes senate run

Dave Liniger has decided not to campaign for a seat in the U.S. Senate, according to news reports.

The co-founder of RE/MAX International met with Republican officials in Washington, D.C., during the last two weeks to consider whether to run for what will be an open seat in Congress from his home state of Colorado.

Had he decided to run, his campaign might have been a boon for Realtors at the national level and attracted attention to housing interests in national politics. He considered running for office because he’s concerned about the national economy, the federal deficit, the Social Security system, homeland security, the U.S. military, affordable housing, minority home ownership and realty brokerage errors-and-omissions insurance, among other issues.

Liniger said last month the decision would take into account the opinions of his family and business associates.

“I have spent my entire life building RE/MAX. The company runs itself, and for the past several years I have been trying to fly balloons around the world and drive race cars and that sort of thing,” he said.

Liniger said he has traveled 150-200 days a year for the last 30 years to build the RE/MAX corporation and he now wants to spend more time in his home state, rather than in the nation’s capital.
